Given its central role in immune modulation, the skin is a critical target for therapeutic intervention in food allergy and other immunologic disorders.¹ Epicutaneous immunotherapy (EPIT) is a noninvasive, innovative approach that aims to re-educate the immune system over time.^1-3

MECHANISM OF ACTION (MOA)

UTILIZING THE IMMUNE-REGULATING CAPABILITIES OF THE SKIN TO RE-EDUCATE THE IMMUNE SYSTEM, USING FOOD ALLERGY AS AN EXAMPLE^2,4,5

EPIT uses the tolerogenic immune properties of the skin to induce desensitization while limiting systemic allergen exposure.*

Allergen introduced by EPIT is captured and processed by Langerhans cells in the epidermis.⁶

Langerhans cells migrate to the lymph nodes and induce Tregs that suppress allergic activity.^2,3

EPIT-induced Tregs suppress the production of allergy-associated molecules, thereby preventing an allergic response.^3,7
